Dr. Radhakrishnan was born on 5 September 1888 in a small Brahmin family in Tirumani, a small village in Tamil Nadu. His father’s name was Sarvepalli Viraswami, he was poor, but also a learned Brahmin.
His father was responsible for the whole family, so Radhakrishnan did not get much happiness from childhood. Radhakrishnan married his distant cousin Sivakamu at the age of 16. With whom they had 5 daughters and 1 son.
His son’s name is Sarvepalli Gopal, who was a great historian of India. Radhakrishnan ji’s wife died in 1956. VV S Laxman, the great player of the Indian cricket team, belongs to his family.

Dr. Radhakrishnan’s childhood was spent in Tirumani village. From there, he started his education. For further education, his father got enrolled in the Christian missionary institution, Lutheran Mission School, Tirupati.
Where he lived from 1896 to 1900. In 1900, Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan studied from the college in Vellore. After that he completed his further education from Madras Christian College, Madras. He was a brilliant student from the beginning. He did his M.A in philosophy in 1906. Radhakrishnan ji continued to receive scholarship in the field of his whole life education.

In 1909 Radhakrishnan was made a teacher of philosophy in the Madras Presidency College. In 1916, he became Assistant Professor of Philosophy in Madras Residency College. 1918 He was selected as Professor of Philosophy by the University of Mysore.
He then became a teacher of Indian Philosophy at Oxford University, England. Dr. Radhakrishnan gave first importance to education. That is why he remained such a learned scholar. The trend towards education gave him a strong personality. Always used to learn to learn something new.
The college from which he did M.A., he was made the vice-chancellor. But Dr. Radhakrishnan left it within a year and became the vice-chancellor in Banaras University. During this time, he also wrote many books on philosophy.
 
Dr. Radhakrishnan considered Vivekananda and Veer Savarkar as his role models. He had kept a deep study car about them. Dr. Radhakrishnan, through his articles and speeches, tried to familiarize the whole world with Indian philosophy. When India got independence, Jawaharlal Nehru urged Radhakrishnan to fulfill diplomatic tasks with the Soviet Union as a distinguished ambassador.
Accepting Nehru’s words, Dr. Radhakrishnan served as a member of the Constituent Assembly from 1947 to 1949. Everyone praised his work and behavior in Parliament.
After his successful academic career, he made his foray into politics. He was the Vice President of the country from 13 May 1952 to 13 May 1962. On 13 May 1962, he was elected President of India.
His tenure was quite challenging compared to Rajendra Prasad, because on one hand, India had wars with China and Pakistan, in which India had to face defeat with China.

Radhakrishnan was posthumously awarded the Templeton Prize in 1975 by the American government, which is awarded for upliftment in the field of religion. He was the first non-Christian sect to receive this award.
